Ed Note: This summer the lab participated in X-Labs, an intense summer program for secondary students interested in science. We had the great fortune to match with Aanya, who has been a very enthusiastic member of the team for the past couple of weeks. We thought it would be great if she shared a bit about her experience here. ~S.Kerfoot

Hello, my name is Aanya Anand and I am a Grade 10 student participating in the X-Labs program. X-Labs is a two-week Biomedical Science Academy that allows children from across southwestern Ontario to come along and participate in the science-based lab workshop at Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry.

This year I was lucky enough to join the team of Dr.Kerfoot’s immunology lab that earned me exponential learning through him and his amazing team. Throughout this entire two-week experience I learned about the new facets of science and its branch of immunology. I also learned how immunology really plays a pivotal role in human society. I was in awe with these amazing new opportunities of  learning, as a student at Dr.Kerfoots lab. My only word to express my experience would be simply “Amazing”.

Throughout this two-week experience I had the wonderful  opportunity to interact with my peers, under-graduate students, graduate students and have regular interactions with many professors at Schulich. With this opportunity that I have gained has enabled me to envision my future vision in the field of science. This two week experience really helped solidify my vision for a future in the field of science. I am so thankful for this entire opportunity and I am excited for what's in store next year. I can’t wait to be back…
